Tips for Entering a Property with a Dog
When you enter a property that has an animal you should be sure to do many things to protect yourself. A dog bite or an attack can be pretty severe for an adult and even for a child. Always be sure that you know an animal before you walk on a property where a dog is.
Many people receive dogs for the holidays with a big bow underneath the artificial Christmas trees. They don’t know the mannerism of the dog and even if they like children. Not properly researching an animal before you gift them under the artificial Christmas trees or lighted palm trees can be a big mistake. If a dog has a mannerism of calm and very laid back but is around hyperactive children all day it could cause the animal to become irritated and even bite them.
When you visit a home or property you should always ask the owner if they have a dog and if they will tie them up or put them in a room while you are there. The best way for the animal to see you arrive at the home is in your car. This is because the driveway is where pets see friends arrive. When you are walking onto a property for the first time it is best to look around and make yourself aware if there are any animals or pets of any sort. If there are dogs you can usually tell if they have a big or a small dog based on the size of the toys, dog bowls and more.
If a dog comes running toward you when you arrive at a home then you should always greet the dog. Don’t make the dog feel left out because many dogs that are not greeted think that you are bad. Even if you don’t like dogs you should always greet the dog. Always stand confident when you are near a dog. Dogs can smell fear and this is true. If a dog is barking or growling at you and you are afraid then they will know it and be more prone to bite you.
Always try to recognize the posture of a dog when it approaches you. If the dog shows to be alert but it is not appearing to be aggressive then be sure to greet it. Be prepared though for a dog that may be aggressive. Dogs will always want to sniff you. Continue walking and let a dog sniff you and carry on with what you are doing. Don’t use excessive eye contact with a dog but be aware the dog is behind you and be prepared for anything that may happen.
Dogs that may seem like the friendliest dogs in the world often do things to surprise the owners in ways they have never believed. You don’t want this to happen to you when a friendly dog attacks and be the victim. Whenever you go to any home or property and there is a dog or appears to be a dog be sure that you pay close attention to the manner of the dog and how you respond to it.
